Drive to the Umbwe gate after being picked up by our car at the hotel. Following completion of the gate registration requirements, the hike through the rainforest begins to the campsite at Umbwe Cave, where all tents have already been set up. From there, you can stop for dinner and an overnight stop. You will traverse ridges and valleys as you enter a pretty dense forest today.

After breakfast today, you will hike through the remaining woodland to reach the moorland and heath zone, where you can take in some stunning views of the Barranco valleys and the mountain's ice crown. Once there, you'll have dinner and spend the night at the Barranco Camp.

On Day 3, you'll go exploring close to Barranco Camp to get some much-needed acclimatization. Keep your camera close at hand to photograph the groundsel-covered campsite's surroundings. Another reason this is the ideal location for your acclimatization day is that many hikers consider this as their favorite camp on this trip. The 6-Day Umbwe Itinerary is an excellent option if you are extremely confident in your body's capacity to adapt properly.

You have the opportunity to overcome this obstacle after spending the night underneath the Great Barranco Wall. Do not fret It's a lot easier than it appears. Turn around when you get to the bottom of the Heim Glacier. then proceed through the Karanga Valley. Your porters will return here one last time before departing. They will collect all of the water required for the remainder of the ascent here. You'll feel right at home in the Karanga Camp. After lunch, you can spend the afternoon relaxing or doing some light exploring while admiring Mawenzi's soaring spires.

After breakfast, go east, through numerous ridges and valleys, until you meet the Mweka Route. Turn left here and continue for a further hour up the ridge to reach the Barafu Hut. When you go to camp, you'll find your tent set up on a rocky ridge with strong winds. To ensure your safety, make sure to become familiar with the camp before dusk. In case you have to leave the tent after dark, keep your headlamp or flashlight close by. The night before your summit attempt, you'll get your gear ready (change the batteries in your torch and camera) before going to bed at 7 o'clock.

A well-arranged night at Barafu Camp
After having tea or coffee and biscuits at 11:30 PM, you should leave Barafu to attempt the peak. Stella Point (18,650 ft/5,685 m) is reached after a 6-hour ascent through a lot of switchbacks between the Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers. You've just finished what the majority of climbers deem to be the most difficult section of their journey. Depending on how quickly you've been moving up to this point, you could get a chance to witness the magnificent sunrise during your brief rest.
Even though you'll be worn out from the intense cold, it's crucial to remain moving. You have connected with the final section of the Marangu Route at Stella Point. Up until you reach Uhuru Peak, your ultimate destination, you will climb along the rim for a further one to two hours. You are currently standing atop the Roof of Africa, so congrats! In order to give yourself enough time to recover in the Barafu Camp, it is crucial to start your descent as soon as possible. You will have time to take pictures with the iconic Uhuru Peak sign.
You will arrive at Barafu after a three-hour descent down sloping scree, where you can have a short break while gathering your things before continuing down down the path into the Mweka forest camp. Afternoon showers are possible, so pack your rain gear in your daypack just in case. Enjoy your meal and some well-earned rest. The office at Mweka Camp offers bottled water, soft drinks, candy bars, and beer for purchase.

Your final day on the mountain is today, so after breakfast, you'll travel through Montana forest for 3–4 hours to get to the Mweka Park gate. You will then sign out at the gate and get ready to board the car for the trip back to Moshi.
