The Machame route, also known as the "Whiskey" route, is Kilimanjaro's most popular route in the Kilimanjaro climbing. However, the route is considered difficult, steep and difficult, mainly due to the shorter distance. The Machame route is therefore more suitable for the more adventurous or those with a lot of altitude, hiking or backpacking experience. The Machame route approaches Kilimanjaro from the south, starting a short drive from Moshi to Machame Gate.
The trail takes hikers through the rainforest to the Shira Plateau. Many Kilimanjaro routes converge here. The route then turns east and passes under the southern ice field of Kilimanjaro along a route known as the Southern Circuit before reaching the summit of Barafu. The descent is via the Mweka route. On the Day 1 of 6 Days Kilimanjaro climbing,It takes about 50 minutes to drive from Moshi to the gates of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park. The drive passes through the village of Machame on the lower slopes of the mountain. Exit the park gate and hike through the rainforest on winding paths that ascend ridges. Further down the trail it becomes muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles come in handy here. Continue a short distance until you reach Machame Camp.

On the Day 2 0f 6 Days Kilimanjaro Hiking After breakfast, we leave the rainforest clearing and continue uphill, traversing small valleys and walking along steep, heather-covered rocky ridges to the end of the ridge. The route turns west into a river canyon. Rest, dinner and overnight stay at Shira campsite.

FOn the Day 3 0f 6 Days Kilimanjaro Hiking From Shira Plateau, cross the junction and head east along the ridge to the summit of Kibo. Continuing to climb, it changes direction to the southeast and heads to a lava tower called "Shark's Tooth". Shortly after the Tower you will reach his second fork towards the Arrow Glacier at 16,000ft. Head to Barranco Camp at an altitude of 13,000 feet. Here you will rest, enjoy dinner and spend the night. On the Day 4 0f 6 Days Kilimanjaro Hiking After breakfast, depart Barranco and hike up a steep ridge over the Barranco Wall to Karanga Valley Campground. Afterwards, leave Karanga and come across a junction that leads to the Mweka Trail. Continue climbing up to Barafu Hut. At this point, the South Circuit is complete, with views of the summit from different angles. Here we will set up camp, rest, enjoy dinner and prepare for 6 Days Kilimanjaro Hiking summit day. From this position you can see two peaks, Mawenzi and Kibo.

On the Day 5 of 6 Days Kilimanjaro climbing In the early morning (12:00-2:00 AM), hike between the Lebmann and Ratzel Glaciers to the summit. Head northwest and climb heavy rocks towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the trek. Take a short break at Sutera Point (18,600 feet) for the most spectacular sunrise you've ever seen (weather permitting).
You may encounter snow on the one-hour Kilimanjaro climbing from Stella Point to the summit. At Uhuru Peak, we reached the highest point of Kilimanjaro and the African continent. Faster hikers can watch the sunrise from the summit. Descending from the summit, you will drive straight to Mweka Hut Campsite and stop in Barafu for lunch. Gaiters and trekking poles are required to descend loose gravel. Mweka Camp is in the upper part of the forest and expect fog and rain in the late afternoon. Late at night, enjoy a final dinner on the mountain and a good night's sleep.
