The only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border, is the Rongai route take a 6 Days Kilimanjaro climbing. Despite growing popularity among climbers, this route is still relatively uncrowded. Rongai has a gentler slope than the other routes on the mountain. For those seeking an alternative to the well-known Marangu path, it is the preferred route, a more remote hike, or those climbing during the rainy season (the north side receives less precipitation). Rongai is a moderately difficult route that is highly recommended, especially for first-time backpackers. Although the6 Days Kilimanjaro climbing scenery is not as varied as on the western routes, Rongai compensates by passing through true wilderness areas for nearly the entire distance. The Marangu route is used for the descent. Rongai is available as a seven-day group climb or a six-day solo climb with Burigi Chato Safaris®. The 6 Days Kilimanjaro climbing variation does not include an acclimatization day at Mawenzi Tarn on day four.
On the Day 1 of 6 Days Kilimanjaro climbing We take a drive to Marangu to complete the necessary registration paperwork before transferring to Rongai by SUV. The climb begins at Nale Moru (6,400 feet) on a small path that winds through maize and potato fields before entering a pine forest. The trail then begins to climb steadily but gently through a beautiful forest that is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Colobus monkey. These monkeys are black with a white 'cape' and a flowing white tail. At the edge of the moorland zone, the forest begins to thin. Then, as we approach our first campsite, Rongai One Camp, we take in the expansive views of the Kenyan plains (8,500 ft).
