6 DAYS RONGAI ROUTE AWESOME KILIMANJARO CHRISTMAS SUMMIT 2024

On the day 1 of 6 Days Kilimanjaro hiking,We drive to Marangu to complete the necessary registration formalities before heading to Rongai by 4WD. The climb begins at Nale Moru (6,400 feet) on a small trail that winds through fields of corn and potatoes before entering a pine forest. The Kilimanjaro hiking trail then begins to climb steadily but gently through an attractive forest that is home to a variety of wildlife including the Colobus monkey. These monkeys are black with a long cape of white hair and a flowing white tail. At the edge of the moor zone, the forest begins to thin out. We then enjoy sweeping views across the Kenyan Plains as we arrive at our first campground at Rongai first Camp (8,500ft).

On the day 2 of 6 Days Kilimanjaro climbing The morning walk is a steady climb to the second cave (11,300 feet) with great views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields on the crater rim. After lunch we leave the main trail and head southeast through the moorland on a smaller trail to the rugged peaks of Mawenzi. Our campsite is in a sheltered valley adorned with giant senecios near the Kikelewa Caves (11,800ft).

On the day 3 of 6 Days Kilimanjaro hiking A short but steep ascent climb is rewarded with magnificent all-round views and a tangible sense of wilderness. We leave the vegetation behind just before reaching the next camp at Mawenzi Tarn (14,200ft), spectacularly situated in a cirque just below the soaring spiers of Mawenzi. The afternoon is free to rest or explore the area to acclimatize.

On the day 4 of 6 Days Kilimanjaro climbing We traverse the lunar desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach Kibo Hut (15,400 feet) at the base of the crater wall. We spend the rest of the day resting in preparation for the final early morning climb.

On the day 5 of 6 Days Kilimanjaro hiking At 1 a.m. we start the most demanding part of the climb with a headlamp. First, we trudge very slowly in the dark on a switchback path through loose volcanic debris to reach the crater rim at Gillmans Point (18,600 feet). Here we will have a short rest to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi. Those still feeling fit can take the three-hour round trip to Uhuru Peak (19,345 ft). You'll come close to the 6 Days Kilimanjaro hiking spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. The descent to Kibo Hut (15,400ft) is surprisingly quick and after some refreshments we continue the descent to Horombo Hut (12,200ft).

On the day 6 of 6 Days Kilimanjaro hiking A steady descent takes us through moorland to Mandara Huts (8,900 ft). We then continue descending through a beautiful lush forest on a good trail to the gate of Kilimanjaro National Park at Marangu (6,000ft) where we are transferred back to your lodge in Moshi.
