Laying usually takes place around January, February and March every year. In January, herds begin to head south into the Serengeti after the onset of rain. The question of how the flock knows when it's raining or not is something many people have asked and the answer is we really don't! Many say they can smell rain, others claim they can smell it when the air pressure changes. One thing we know for sure is that where it rains, the cattle follow.
