6days TANZANIA PRIVATE BIG 5 SAFARI TO Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater and lake manyara DRIVE IN – FLY OUT 2024

This Tanzania Big 5 Safari package aims to enable tourists to see the Big 5 animals in Tanzania's national parks. These include Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Lake Eyasi, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. The term "Big 5" originally referred to the difficulty of hunting lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and African buffaloes. These five species of large African mammals were known to be dangerous, and it was considered a feat for a trophy hunter to bring them down and back home.

DAY 1: FROM ARUSHA DRIVE TO TARANGIRE NP

Early leave Arusha city around 07:30-08:00, drive through a beautiful and scenic Masai steppe to Makuyuni Junction and turn left onto the Arusha-Dodoma highway towards Tarangire National Park, a journey lasting a maximum of 2 hours. Arrive at the park gate in Tarangire and after your driver has completed the paperwork, almost immediately embark on game drives from the gate to see as many animals and birds as possible.

Tarangire is known for both the giant baobab trees and the largest flocks of jumbo jets, but a visit to the park is much more than that. The park is home to a large number of migratory small game and wild animals (which migrate between here and Manyara), but also a large number of birds, including some very rare and almost native to this park, such as Ashy Starlings, for example . Other rare animals are the oryx and the gerenuk. A variety of other common animals that may be seen include buffalo, giraffe, lion, cheetah, impala, dik-dik, leopard, gazelle, eland, red hartebeest (Kongoni) and many others.

Your professional safari guide will take you to the best wildlife viewing areas in the park including the Tarangire River, a permanent river that acts as a lineage for the park and ensures that animals flock to the banks of the river in search of the water throughout year-round. Expect to see elephant, antelope, wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, gerenuk, giraffe and lots of birds.

Lunch will be taken at one of the picnic areas. Later, leave the park and your guide will drive you to Manyara/Karatu in the Ngorongoro Highlands for dinner and overnight. We stay at a budget tinted lodge in Manyara/Karatu.

DAY 2: DRIVE TO LAKE EYASI THEN BACK TO MANYARA/KARATU

Explore wild and unknown territory in the southern Serengeti. Located immediately southwest of Ngorongoro Crater in the Crater Highlands of Tanzania, Lake Eyasi is one of several beautiful lakes in the East African Rift Valley. The slightly alkaline lake stretches some 50km to the southwest with the vast plains of the Serengeti to the north. Enjoy strolls along the shores of the lake and spend afternoons exploring the area, which is dotted with ancient baobab trees.

Join a Hadzabe family, the last remaining hunter-gatherers in Africa, on a hunting expedition to see their uncanny ability to track and hunt small game! Early morning, we head to the village to experience local hunting with the Hadzabe and Datonga tribes. This is not just a performance. The Bushmen rely on these techniques to survive and you must be very alert and sometimes silent when demonstrating their use of local poisons to incapacitate the poor creatures they depend on for survival. We return to your accommodation for a late breakfast.

After breakfast, meet the extraordinary people belonging to an indigenous tribe known as the “Hadzabe” (Hunter-Gatherer-Bushmen). The tribe lives along the shores of Lake Eyasi, as does the Nilotic-speaking Datoga tribe. You will visit these tribes which will include a visit to their homes, learn about their way of life, animal tracking, medicinal plants and much more. Some wildlife and a variety of bird species can be spotted on organized walks around the lake. At the end of the afternoon, we return to Manyara/Karatu to spend the night.

DAY 3: KARATU/MANYARA – SEREMGETI NP

On this day you leave Manyara/Karatu to Ngorongoro Crater. You’ll arrive Ngorongoro after 30 minutes then we’ll descend over 600m to the crater to view the wildlife in it.
The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded African wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino
Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro National Park supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park, is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will also visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the south western corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually be seen here.

Olduvai Gorge Museum: Sometimes known as the Cradle of Mankind, the Olduvai Gorge Museum commemorates some of the oldest evidence of human habitation ever found. Here you will see some of the oldest fossil evidence in the world of human habitation, visit the Olduvai Gorge Museum to learn more about the human journey, and take in the stunning views of this stark gorge country. Both of the above activities are excluded in your Tour (additional cost is Needed).
Arrive the Serengeti in the late afternoon for an Evening game drive until Evening when you will check in at a Camp/lodge, dinner and overnight.
