The third day of Serengeti Migration phenomenon After breakfast, enjoy a full-day safari in the Eastern Serengeti. Wildebeests typically live in the northeastern Serengeti and migrate further south in December. Located on the eastern plains, Gorkopies has the highest concentration of cheetahs in Africa during the wet season. Most cheetahs in the Serengeti are migratory, as Thomson's gazelles migrate to the eastern shortgrass plains during the wet season and return to the central Serengeti (the border between plains and forests) during the wet season. During the wet season, the eastern plains offer some of the best cheetah viewing in the Serengeti and all of Africa. On a day trip to GOL Kopjes you may encounter several groups of cheetahs. Cheetahs are fully diurnal hunters, and if you're lucky, you'll get to see the world's fastest land animal in action some time following the migratory groups in the Serengeti Wildebeest Migration.
In addition to cheetahs, hyenas are most abundant in the eastern plains during the green season. Large hyena clans of up to 30 individuals are regularly seen from Naabi Hill east via Gol Kopjes and Lemuta Hill. The most common predators throughout the ecosystem, hyenas are semi-nomadic, 'migrating' from their burrows in the central Serengeti to the eastern plains during the wet season. Lions are abundant on the eastern plains even during the rainy season. Most of the Serengeti's lions are resident, but a significant number (about 20%) are nomadic, following animals to the plains each rainy season. However, lions are rarely seen east of Lemuta and are much easier to see in the proper Serengeti, including the Gol Kopjes area.
After lunch, continue your animal watching in Serengeti and drive to central Serengeti for an overnight stay. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti camp or lodge. All meals are included.
